Sporting Success - October/November 2013

Surf Life Saving

Congratulations to Courtney Halford (Yr 9). Courtney applied for and was selected, to be a panel member on the Surf Life Saving NSW Board.

The position is an advisory position to help the organisation obtain insights and perspectives of young leaders. To be selected as a candidate the individual must demonstrate leadership roles in all club activities and also be very involved with the younger members of the club. There must also be considerable involvement in all Programs and the candidates must have attended the Junior Life Saving of the Year Competition.

Courtney is an outstanding choice. She will offer the Association insight, wisdom and be a very dedicated, conscientious member of the Board. 

Gymnastics Championships - School Representative

During November, 5 students from Pittwater House competed at the CIS Gymnastics Championships, Imogen Barnes (Yr 4), Annabelle Hyde (Yr 6), Olivia Massi (Yr 6), Jessica Head (Yr 7) and Mali Garling (Yr 8). Huge congratulations to Imogen Barnes for winning a Bronze medal for coming 3rd on the bars. Overall results on the day were:

Level 5 Imogen Barnes - Vault 15th,  Bars 3rd,  Beam 9th,  Floor 19th Annabelle Hyde - Vault 15th,  Bars 4th,  Beam 10th,  Floor 9th Jessica Head -  Vault 17th,  Bars 13th,  Beam 12th,  Floor 6th

Level 6 Mali Garling - Vault 6th,  Bars 11th,  Beam 8th,  Floor 7th Olivia Massi -  Vault 9th,  Bars 7th,  Beam 9th,  Floor 12th

U16 Water Polo Trials - School Representatives

During October Pittwater House sent two teams to play in the AICES Water Polo Championships. Both teams U16 Boys and U16 Girls won their competitions and became the AICES Champions.

At the end of the championships AICES selected two AICES Water Polo Teams.

Natasha Burke and Molly Hurst were selected into the AICES Girls Team with Camryn Scott as a shadow player. They will now play in the AICES team and compete at the CIS Girls championships.

Also selected were,  Isaac Smith, Guy Rees, Harry Shaw, Andrew Mahn, Callum Howe for the AICES Boys Team with Alex Burke as a shadow player.  The boys will now play in the AICES team and compete at the CIS Boys championships.

Harry Shaw was also selected to join the CIS Team who will compete next year. 

Hillary Challenge

The final of the Hillary Challenge was an exhilarating achievement for eight Year 11 students: Kelsey Dunlop, Megan Rolls, Giorgia Whincup, Charlotte Udell, Mitchel Howe, Chris Mansell, Ryan Blackshaw and Liam Pederson.

The students competed across the following 3 areas in the Southern Highland:

Day 1:  The challenge day This was a series of five, 60 minute challenges designed to test a range of outdoor skills and teamwork.   The students finished 4th overall.

Day 2: 8 hour Rogaine This was an eight hour cross country navigational challenge, again finishing in 4th place.

Day 3 Multi sport race This was a timed stage around 6 hours long. The course involved cycling, running, abseiling and a canoeing leg. The team achieve 8th place in this demanding race.

Athletics Carnival - School Representatives

Congratulations to Elisa Molen-Grigull for being selected into the 2013 CIS Athletics Merit Team.

Students from the Senior school were part of the AICES team that competed in the CIS Championships.  The students achieved some outstanding results in their field.

Elisa Molen Grigull 1st in High Jump, Georgia McFarland 8th in Hurdles Latika Tombs 1st in Shot Put, 11th in High Jump, 7th in Long Jump Katia Molen Grigull 3rd High Jump Alex O'Brien 7th Hurdles Josh Byron 4th Hurdles, 4th in Javelin Ruben Devaris 11th in Triple Jump Matthew Julian 4th in Javelin.

NSW All Schools Track and Field Championships

In challenging conditions sisters Katia and Elisa Molen-Grigull participated in the NSW All Schools Track and Field Championships at Homebush.  Both girls reached sensational result in the high jump achieving 5th and 7th.

U15 Cricket Trials - AICES

Over 50 students from around Australia attended the U15 AICES Cricket Trials.   Only 12 boys were selected to represent AICES at the CIS trials and Year 9 student Jack Pickering successfully secured himself a position.
