Snowsports

The Pittwater House Snowsports team recently competed in the Redlands Cup and the Sydney Interschool Snowsports championship at Thredbo.

Race week began in earnest with the Redlands Cup and 6 students competing. China Waters (Year 12) had a super run down the World Cup Race course coming 2nd in the Snowboard Division 1 Female. Lachlan Moore (Year 8) came 5th in Snowboard Division 2 Male, with team mate Ryan Garner (Year 10) unfortunately coming unstuck on a particularly rutted out corner. Max Garling (Year 5) came 5th amongst the Snowboard Division 4 Male while Mali (Year 8) and Charley Garling (Year 4) were our skiing representatives and came 15th and 34th respectively.

The team then competed in the Sydney Interschool Snowsports Championships culminating in some fantastic results. Day 1 began with the snowboarders blitzing the field with Ryan and Lachlan teaming up to come 2nd in both the Snowboard Division 2 and Boarder Cross Division 2 events. Ryan also came 2nd overall in both of these races.

Lachlan Moore stepped up a division, which resulted in him coming in the top end of the field, achieving 5th and 6th respectively. China Waters and Maddy Alexis (Year 11) came 3rd in the Snowboard Division 1 Female and Boarder Cross Division 1 Female team events. Max then made his Interschools debut and came 4th in both the Giant Slalom and Boarder Cross.

The skiers had some wonderful results with Ryan showing his versatility in coming 10th in Skiercross. Mali competed in all skiing disciplines of Alpine, Skier cross and the Moguls in which she achieved 11th overall!

Mason Rutzou (Year 7) enjoyed his first experience in racing; he competed in a massive field of nearly 100 skiers! Our youngest competitor Charley Garling (year 4) finished in the middle of the field of Division 5 skiers which was tremendous.

Pittwater House was placed 6th in the overall point score for Secondary Female and Male Snowboard.

Earlier in the holidays, Maddy and Ryan also competed in the first of the Thredbo 2013 Freestyle events. Maddy and Ryan both made it through to the finals with Maddy winning the Open Women's finals and Ryan placing 3rd in the Junior Men's final.
