General Excellence - October/November 2013

English Results

Students from Years 7 to 11 recently sat the University of New South Wales' ICAS English examination. ICAS is an international competition which tests a student's ability in a range of areas, including spelling, vocabulary, syntax, reading and literacy. 

Thirty-four students in total sat the exam. The results were pleasing: one High Distinction, one Distinction and twelve credits. Congratulations to the fourteen students who performed at an excellent level: Aaron Auld, Kiara Butera, Alexander Giles, Eliose Bowyer, Poppy Fitzgerald, Charles Langoulant, Camryn Scott, Joshua Howard, Nicola Hook, Bianca Keating, Mitchell Scott (High Distinction), Georgette Tabor (Distinction), Maria Wang, and Kelsey Dunlop.

Long Tan Awards

Recently, Lieutenant Commander Barb Woodruff RAN presented the 2013 Pittwater House recipients, their Long Tan Awards.

These Awards, first established in 2006 by the ADF for Leadership and Teamwork, recognize students who demonstrate leadership and teamwork within both the School and the broader local community. At the same time, they recognize those who display strong values such as doing one's best, respect for others, tenacity, compassion and 'mateship'; characteristics that are integral to Australian society. 

Congratulations to Bettina Ferreira (Yr 10), Louis Langoulant (Yr 10),Brittany Klein (Yr 12) and Akshai Bhandari (Yr 12) on being the 2013 recipients. 

Lego League Robotics Competition

Pittwater House sent two teams from the Junior School to compete in the First Lego League (FLL) robotics competition at Narrabeen Sports High. 

The Pyromanic Engineers team includes Daniel Nemtsev, Duncan Easter, Charlotte Cooney and Paris Hallett and the Gummie Bears team with students Matthew Rose, Henry Ladd-Hudson, Robyn Garrad and Isabella Lorenzo lead by Coaches James McArthur (Year 12) and Joshua Udell (Year 7).

Over 15 schools attended, each team competing in three areas; Robot Design, Project and Robot Challenge.  The teams successfully gained 5th and 6th place.

Music - AMEB

Pittwater House music students recently took AMEB exams and had wonderful success in their chosen instrument;

Drumkit Illyphe Toumi-Cussinet received a credit for Advancing Step 

Tuba Erik Murphy received Honors for 1st grade

Piano Exams

Isabella Thomassian received a Credit for 3rd Grade

Aaron Auld received a Credit for 3rd Grade

Vas Sotiropoulos received Honours for 2nd Grade

Imogen Barnes received a Credit for Preliminary

Bhavya Coburn received a Credit for 4th Grade

Zachary Wilkinson received a Pass for 1st Grade

Trumpet Exams

Sebastian Massi received Honours for 1st Grade

Charles Langoulant obtained a Credit for 5th Grade.
