Sporting and General Excellence - June/July 2012

Surf Lifesaving

Annastasia Loucks has been awarded the Club Community Member Award for 2011/12 by the South Narrabeen SLC in recognition of her continual presence at the club community events.  This award has not been presented for seven years so it is especially meaningful. 

Snow Sports

We had some solid snowboard performances at the Regional Interschools held at Perisher this month, with the entire School team comprising of China Waters, Riley Cross, Maddy Alexis and Hugo Dowd all going through to the State Championships.

Snowboard Giant Slalom: Division 1 Female: China Waters (7th), Division 2 Female: Riley Cross (10th), Maddy Alexis (1st) and the girls place 3rd in the team's events.  Division 2 Male Hugo Dowd (8th)

Snowboard Cross:  Division 2 Male:  Hugo Dowd (2nd), Division 1 Female: China Waters (8th), Division 2 Female: Riley Cross (6th), Maddy Alexis (3rd) and the girls' team placed 2nd.

Maddy Alexis also competed in the Thredbo Freeride Series and won the Junior Girl's Division in Slopestyle.

Following on from Maddy's success in June, she then went on to win the World Rookie Festival Slopestyle Snowboard competition in Thredbo during August. From her win Maddy flights and entry fees are now being covered for her to attend the finals in Austria in April 2013. 

Water Polo

Pascalle Casey has been successful in becoming a member of the 'Born in 1994' Australian Water Polo team.  The team will compete in Hungary from the 10 to 24 July. Following on from Pascalle's selection to the NSW Schoolgirls' Water Polo team, the team recently won the National Schoolgirls' competition and has been selected in the Australian Schoolgirl's Water Polo team to compete in New Zealand in December.

Congratulations also goes to Harry Shaw (Year 8) who has been named in the NSW Waratahs (14 Years) team who competed in the National Championships in Melbourne this school holidays.  Harry is in the NSW B Team who narrowly lost their semi-finals 8-7.  He had an outstanding tournament and his team defeated Victoria A and B and South Australia and drew to Queensland A.

Netball

Congratulations to Trya Hugill and Grace Gurr who competed at the State Netball Championships in Wyong over the holidays. The girls competed in the Under 12 division and successfully won 18 of the 19 games they played.

Hockey

Congratulations to Jack Pickering (Year 8) on his selection to the State U13 Hockey Team.

Extreme Eisteddfod

Year 7 student Ellie Bowyer danced her way into 2nd place in the 12 Years Song and Dance Section and 3rd place in the 12 Years Modern Championship of the Extreme Eisteddfod recently 

Jui Jitsu

Edward Gilmore (Year 2) competed in the 2012 NSW State Championship for Brazilian Jui Jitsu. This was his first external competition and had competitors from all over NSW.  Edward had to compete in the Under 9's (two whole divisions higher than his age) 37kg Gi Male All Belts division.  Edward skill resulted won him 3rd place in his event.  Congratulations with your success.
