junior school | academic achievements
From the youngest age, Pittwater House enables students to open their minds and to aim high in all they do. A high priority is given to developing student capability in literacy and numeracy which begins from the earliest years of the pre-school and continues through to Year 12 with a clear focus on enabling students to gain admission to the university course of their choice.
The six core learning areas in the Junior School (Kindergarten to Year 4) are Maths, English, Human Society & its Environment, Science & Technology, Creative Arts and Physical Development, Health & Physical Education (PDHPE). French is taught to all students from Year 3.
Testimony to our focus on academic excellence is the 2011 National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) results. Both Year 3 and Year 5 boys tested above the state average. The Year 3 boys did particularly well in 'data measurement, space and geometry' with 89% of students in the top two bands and 83% of students in the top two bands* for 'spelling'. Excellent results were also showcased by the Year 5 boys, with 94% sitting in the top two bands for 'number, pattern & algebra' and 95% in the top two bands for 'grammar & punctuation'.
