Fresh Tastes at Pittwater House

Pittwater House recognises the need to implement strategies to aid in the provision of healthy foods and to educate pupils on the benefits of healthy living. Our healthy canteen strategy was started at the beginning of 2004 and has proven to be a resounding success.

The strategy resulted from the NSW Obesity Summit and was put in place to address the food on sale to children in school canteens around the State. Although the food available at the Pittwater House canteen had always been healthy and varied The Pittwater House School's Mothers Association (now the Parents Association) Canteen Committee began by reviewing all the choices available on the canteen menu at the School. The PHMA removed certain choices from the menu completely and provided the Government's -Red- (Occasionally), -Amber- (Select Carefully) and -Green- (Fill the menu), key to all available food choices on the comprehensive new menu. Healthier options on offer now include rice and pasta dishes with a choice of toppings and sauces and a variety of fresh salads made on the premises daily, free range chicken and low GI products included in the array of nutritional meals available to the pupils.

No nuts or nut products are stocked or sold in the School due to potential nut allergies amongst the population.

The students' lunch orders consist mainly of sandwiches, salads and the most popular dish of all, sushi. Since adopting the new 'Fresh Taste' menu other local schools have made many enquires about the Pittwater House Schools menu. For enquires in regard to the School menu please call the Canteen on 9972 5718 or email canteen@tphs.nsw.edu.au.

Volunteers

The Pittwater House Parents Association invites current School parents to participate in the Canteen Credits Incentive Scheme.

One 'Canteen Credit' per day is awarded to each volunteer for assistance in the Canteen and applied to their School Account on the last day of term. One 'Canteen Credit' equals $25 value. Volunteers would be required to commit to a 4.5 hour day on the day or days of their choice. No previous experience is necessary and lunch is provided.

There is no limit on the number of Canteen Credits you can earn e.g. if you commit to one day per fortnight for one year you will save $500 on your School fees. Positions are available on a first-come-first-served basis.

Now you can volunteer and contribute financially to your family budget. Interested parents can email canteen@tphs.nsw.edu.au and please advise which day of the week you prefer and how often you would like to volunteer.
