Library Mural
Pittwater House is thrilled to announce that the entrance into our library has undergone an enormous change during the Term 2 holiday break.
Carol Christensen (mother to Russia in College Year 7 and Denver in Junior College Year 4) has created an incredible artwork, a mural which covers our entire library stairwell. Carol and Gabrielle Mace, School Librarian decided to base the mural around the wonderful work featured in the Graeme Base children's book 'Uno's Garden' and from here Carol created a storybook forest dotted with an amazing array of book characters. We worked with the themes that Children's Picture Books and Young Adult Fiction inspire. We scoured a huge number of picture books and Young Adult Fiction novels for Carol to re-create all the different characters featured on the walls, some classics and some borrowed from more recent publications.
The mural features adorable characters from the books such as 'The Rainbow Fish', 'Dr Seuss', 'The Magic School Bus', 'Harry Potter', Edward & Bella from the 'Twilight' series, 'The Little Mermaid', 'Snow White & The Seven Dwarves', 'Meg & Mog', 'Deltora Quest', 'Bob the Builder', 'The Cat in the Hat', 'Lord of the Rings', Angelina Ballerina, Diary of A Wimpy Kid', Cinderella & Prince Charming, SkullDuggery Pleasant, , Maisy Mouse, 'Bambi & Thumper', 'Rapunzel', 'EJ12',' Go Girls', 'The Rainbow Fairies', Thomas the Tank Engine, Black Beauty, Gumnut Babies: Snugglepot & Cuddlepie', Possum Magic, Where's Wally, 101 Damaltians and more!
Carol has so cleverly placed these characters at varying heights as our school library caters from Early Childhood right through to Year 12. The height of our smaller students sits at a level where they can enjoy the picture book characters whilst our primary students will also see these and the other characters from our Young Adult Fiction selection.
Carol has worked tirelessly on this project for many, many weeks and I wish to thank her on behalf of the entire staff and students of The Pittwater House Schools. I invite all parents and prospective parents to visit our library during Term 3 to view this incredible original piece of art that has so kindly and generously been created for all to enjoy in our school library.
