Pittwater House Preschoolers have fun inspecting the new Sporting Complex building site

A group of four and five year- old budding architects from Pittwater House Early Childhood Centre today visited the building site of Pittwater House's new Sporting Complex.

The visit was part of a project called "our school, our community, our world".   The children are both keen architects and builders within the classroom and have been exploring different approaches to design and construction using 3D materials.

Along with last week's inspection of the building plans, the visit gave the children a first hand experience of construction.  It also gave them the opportunity to see big trucks and diggers and wear the fun safety equipment.

The children were very interested in the materials which are used in buildings.  "Where are the bricks?" asked Natalia Bennett "What is concrete made of?" asked Stella Newman "Why is the soil different colours?" asked Lucas Hine

We examined the steel poles being used for supports and 4 year old Cameron Lorenzo explained that "the building needs supports to stop it blowing away in the wind".

However, they were particularly interested in why the builder's name was John and not Bob and therefore asked if he actually knew any other builders called Bob!

"The children are excited that they are able to map the progress of this building work and become part of this historical event within the school community," said Principal, Dr Nancy Hillier.
