NAPLAN

The National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) assess pupils using common national tests in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions and Numeracy in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9. These tests broadly reflect aspects of literacy and numeracy common to curricula in all States and Territories.

2009 is the second time NAPLAN testing has occurred across the nation and overall Pittwater House pupils achieved results above the state average in Literacy and Numeracy.  This reflects the excellent work of the teaching staff and I congratulate the individual pupils on their results, especially those who have shown improvement in achievement between their previous testing (BST, SNAP and ELLA) and this year’s tests.

P3 has demonstrated strengths in numeracy, with 57% of candidates obtaining Band 5 compared to 23% of the State.

J3 overall literacy and numeracy results were higher than the State mean, with 58% of candidates obtaining Band 6 compared to 23% of the State.

P5 overall literacy and numeracy results were higher than the State mean.  40% of candidates obtained Band 7 compared to 23% of the State.  Numeracy results were also significantly higher than the State average with 40% of candidates obtaining Band 8 compared to 16% of the State.

G7 overall literacy and numeracy results were higher than the State mean.  33% of candidates obtained Band 8 compared to 19% of the State. Numeracy yielded a similar result with candidates more than doubling the State average in the Band 9 [33% vs 14%].
